On 5th April 2021, Tropical Cyclone Seroja struck Indonesia and the East Timor region leaving at least 117 people dead and several others missing. Strong winds, torrential rain, landslides and leaking dams have caused flooding to thousands of homes, forcing the local population to flee to evacuation shelters.

Rescue efforts continued on Monday, with teams digging through the mud and debris in search of victims, and trying to recover bodies swept out to sea. The rescue effort was hampered by power cuts, blocked roads, the remoteness of affected areas and bad weather.
