On 19th May 2020, the Super Cyclone Amphan hit India, bringing wind combined with heavy rains and affecting millions of people already struggling with the coronavirus pandemic.
By the time Amphan caused landfalls on the northeastern Indian coast, its winds reached 200 km/h, causing a 5 meter storm surge along the coast, creating death and destruction. In addition to the victims, serious damage has been caused to residential, commercial and industrial property, as well as infrastructure.
Furthermore, crops have been destroyed and this will affect the food chain. Even in the hinterland, the super cyclone discharged torrential rain making the terrain unstable and causing numerous landslides, which in some cases made roads impassable.
