Mid North Coast and Hunter regions of New South Wales (NSW) were affected by heavy rainfall and flooding: nearly 50,000 people in the affected area are isolated due to the flooding of major roads and with many houses and firms left without power. Four people died due to the event.
The record rainfall, declared a natural disaster, has been caused by a slow-moving area of low pressure. Heavy rains moved south affecting Sydney and Newcastle, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing warnings for southern parts of the state.
