In the past few days, precisely between 16th July and 17th July 2021, very bad weather affected northern Europe, and more precisely Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands, causing floods and severe damages.
Catastrophic floods killed about 200 people in those countries, with hundreds missing as large-scale rescue efforts continue amid rising water, landslides and power outages.
In Germany and in Belgium entire villages were underwater, with cars wedged in between collapsed buildings and debris. The extreme rainfall also affected the Netherlands, Austria and Luxembourg.
Furthermore, in western Germany, a dam along the river Ruhr broke, forcing more than 700 residents in Ophoven to evacuate in the neighbouring city.
